Two Sides of the Same Coin

How do you become lucky AF? Is luck purely random, or is there a way to tilt the odds in our favor? It’s unsettling to think we aren't in control of our life. I’m trying to make sense of something that makes absolutely no sense.

Life, like a coin, sways on chance. Success, failure, love, or despair, these often linger not on merit or effort, but on the invisible hand of fate and luck, isn’t that something we all struggle with? No matter how carefully we plan, life refuses to guarantee outcomes. The wrong side of the coin could mean a missed opportunity, and being overlooked. But flip that coin, and suddenly, everything changes, which can mean something almost perfect is bound to happen, a love story, the dream job, winning the lottery? Someone once said, “I’d rather be lucky than good” and that idea can be terrifying, that there’s this invisible force that separates the fortunate from the forgotten. It’s the reason some people get away with everything while others lose despite playing by the rules.

Life’s unfairness can be confusing, some get every door opened for them, while others have to kick down doors just to be noticed. A part of me wants to believe that everything happens for a reason, that the universe is subtly working in our favour. But the truth? Bad things often happen without reason, and both science and history say that. Tragedy and injustice happen all the time, not as part of some grand plan. Yet, humans can’t help but search for meaning. There’s even a term for it called apophenia where our brain’s tendency to see patterns where none exist. It’s why we look for signs in coincidences, why we convince ourselves that heartbreak was meant to lead us to something better. It gives chaos a storyline, makes life’s unpredictability feel purposeful. The times I’ve found that fate exists is when everything just connects, when circumstances line up perfectly, and it feels as though the universe is gently guiding me toward something greater. It’s a wave of clarity, a magical feeling that everything is as it should be, and the world is unfolding in ways I couldn’t have planned for. When fate shows up, it feels like the universe is playing in my favor. But here's the catch: that feeling never lasts long.

I was talking to a friend on the phone, and she told me how she met her first love by chance, how everything aligned perfectly and how it felt like fate was behind it all. It’s a beautiful way to look at things, this serendipitous meeting, where the universe seemingly threw them together at the right time. But then I thought, fate’s timing doesn’t always guarantee a happily ever after. The universe has a funny way of showing things and telling us that just because something feels destined doesn’t mean it’s the destination we were meant to stay at.

I always try to carry with me the idea of possibility. Manifesting that energy seems to make good things happen. And maybe, I’ve found the hack to it all: a positive outlook. When I believe good things are coming, they do. When I move through life with openness, life response is kind. Give your heart fully to the things you love, but never forget to use your brain. Balance is how you create your own plot twist. Can I create my luck? Maybe, yes, In this randomness, we can find the potential for reinvention. Unlucky is never a final verdict. Every setback carries the probability of something transformative happening. So, the next time life feels like it’s dangling on the edge, take a breath keep persevering because you just might find yourself lucky after all.
